Confession #3: Dirty Teeth

Confession #3: I did not brush my teeth yesterday.

Well, my washing machine flooded my basement yesterday. So during my baby's nap I was busy cleaning that up. Afterwards, I took a speedy shower and didn't even get to blowdry my hair before he woke up from said nap to be fed. Needless to say, many other things happened throughout the day and I forgot about the delight of a clean mouth.
Sometimes new mommies just don't have/make time to remember basic hygiene. It happens. At least I didn't leave the house with my grimy teeth!

You may be glad to know that I did brush them before going to bed.

Confession #2: Proud Mommy

Confession #2: I almost cried at my first proud mommy moment today.

My 4 month old rolled over for the very first time today! I was sitting next to him on the floor, cutting coupons, and he was trying to roll over. He has been trying relentlessly since Christmastime. He seemed to be getting more of a rotation today, though, so I grabbed the video camera (handily on the coffee table nearby.) Of course no one else was here with us, so after another minute or two of a red face and a bit of frustration he finally rolled over onto his belly! I was so PROUD that tears were coming. (I held them in, as among my friends I am the one who never cries.) I wonder what other new mommies first proud moment is?

Secret #1: Fingernails

I never knew that baby fingernails would be so hard to take care of! You need to keep them short, or they will scratch their cute little face! I have a pair of baby fingernail clippers with a magnifying glass. I thought that would be easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Well, it is not. They make me nervous because I don't want to attempt this feat while the baby is asleep for fear of awakening him. When he is awake, obviously he is wiggling all around and I am terrified of cutting him. At the hospital, they gave me a small emery board to use. Regular nail files are okay, but I noticed that it would scratch up that delicate baby skin. Here is the secret: a mini glass nail file. It is great because it is so smooth that it won't scratch baby's skin and it has a rounded edge. (Some glass files have a sharp end.) I hope this helps any other nervous new mommies!

Confession #1: Candy

Confession #1: I dropped a brown candy on my 4 month old baby today. Then, I picked it up and ate it. He didn't seem to mind.

Should I be eating candy in the middle of a Thursday? Every other day I make the decision to eat healthier for my little guy, then struggle to stick to that decision. I remind myself that at the time I was born most mommies didn't worry too terribly about eating desserts, soda, french fries and other things the books say are no-nos for the pregnant and breastfeeding. Well, I say, cut yourself a break to all the mommies out there! Everything in moderation, right?
